Optimal

Subject to four years. Solved.

The class as one optimisation problem. A constraints board every graduate signs, a decision tree the room votes its way down, and the optimal solution revealed at the end — which is everyone, graduating.

01

The concept

Maximise the memories. Minimise the regret. Subject to attendance.

Optimal sets the day up as one big model. The objective function hangs over the stage, every graduate writes one constraint they lived under for four years — the 8am lecture, the bus, the group member who never answered — and the class walks a giant decision tree, voting at every branch. The day closes on the solution: a single line reading the class of 2027, optimal.

It's for operations research and decision support students who've been asked once too often what their department actually is. The palette is simplex indigo, graph-paper white and one marigold for the optimal point.

02

Identity

An objective function and a corner point.

A model lockup — maximise, subject to, solution, status — in Arabic and English, with the department code as the decision variable. Supplied editable.

A feasible-region mark with one marigold corner, and a four-page guide to the one rule: marigold is the optimum, and there's only one.

Photography

Twelve shots, in order, from the model to the people.

Overhead on the feasible region, then close on constraint cards, then the vote at the tree, then the class standing on the optimal corner.

A clean, even grade. Go high for the floor shot — a chair is enough — so the polygon reads.

08

Video

One 45-second edit anybody can cut on a phone.

A 40-second walk from constraint to constraint, ending on the optimal corner.
